English (US)   Flat earth  -  Categories: Religion and Theology  -  @ 06:12:25 pm
Belief in a deity is not like the belief in a flat Earth. A flat Earth seems a reasonable inference from a cursory examination of our daily evidence. There is no such evidence for a deity. Only old stories. Belief in a deity is more like belief in a cubic Earth. There's no evidence for it, but I suppose, if you really yearned for cubes, and heard a lot of stories, and some of the oldest spoke of a square planet, you might infer from the long tradition and from your desire for cubes that the planet is indeed cubic. After all, our homes tend to be cubic; the Earth is our home; therefore, the Earth is cubic. Shall we play Name That Fallacy? Just because you want something doesn't mean it exists, or exists precisely in the manner you want it to exist.
