English (US)   Library Thing  -  Categories: Networks and Networlds  -  @ 12:14:14 pm

Years and years ago, while working for a dot com startup, I had this idea for an e-library database that everyone could use. That is, a web-based library card catalog. And people could find each other, and perhaps buy or lend books. Now it looks like somebody's attempting to do this seemingly obvious thing:

Library Thing.

I just took the tour; it claims to do most of the things I imagined, and some more things I did not. I will try it out.

I once had a huge chunk of my library on an Excel spreadsheet. And then the thing got corrupted. I was very annoyed. And after that my usage of Excel fell off. (Of course, I should have been using a database.)

I've now spent a few hours with Library Thing: I love it. See what I've done so far here.

In a few weeks I'll add more. I've only a few thousand more books to put online!
