English (US)   The Android's Dream and Before the Dawn  -  Categories: Ultrafiction, Evolutionary Evidence  -  @ 06:09:31 pm

John Scalzi's book-length fiction, The Android's Dream, is what it is meant to be: a hoot, a holler, a scream. That is, a non-witless even humorous romp through an imagined future, with diplomacy and religion featured as highly as war and adventure. It pushes all the buttons right. It is a romp, a jape, a great deal of fun.

It is also the last book I've read. Just finished it last night.

Now I'm reading Before the Dawn: Recovering the Lost History of Our Ancestors, a fascinating book by Nicholas Wade. Interesting note: genetics can tell us when man developed and began to wear clothing. Answer: 75,000 years ago or so.

How do we know?

The genetics of lice.

How nice.
