I am adding these to my diet:
- Drink: one glass of pomegranate juice per day.
- Why: reduces blood pressure, great vitamin C source.
- Sprinkle: Goji berries on cereal, or eat as snack.
- Why: reduces insulin resistance.
- Eat as appetizer: prunes — now called
dried plums
by marketers. - Why: antioxidant especially good at preventing cancer.
- Snack on: dried pumpkin seeds.
- Why: great source of magnesium, which fights early death.
- Eat raw: grated beets . . . toss with tbsp of olive oil and the juice of half a lemon. (And heck, eat the leaves and stems too, after washing . . . saute 'em with garlic and olive oil.)
- Why: lowers blood pressure, fights heart disease and maybe cancer, too.
- Eat raw: cabbage . . . be creative; replace lettuce
- Why: lowers blood pressure, fights heart disease and maybe cancer, too.
- Cook and eat: Swiss chard (I ate it as a kid; my mother grew it in the vegetable garden) .
- Why: prevents retinal damage.
- Eat raw and whole: guava . . . including the seeds and the rind.
- Why: it's the best prostate cancer-fighter there is.
